Programmers. Several people have said programmers like to live in a world all their own. Personally, I would agree.
That’s why I’ve taken it upon myself to help lead people into understanding of BEA Weblogic (AKA Oracle Weblogic) jobs. A point to remember is that Weblogic can come with a variety of titles including Aqualogic.
To start let’s find out exactly what a Weblogic 8 or similar type of programmer does? In simple terms, they create projects implementing the power of Weblogic technology.
Here is a list of qualifications I found on a recent announcement for a new job.
- Weblogic Lead possessing 6-9 years of software development experience
- Framework and features experience within WebLogic Portal 10.3
- Personalization (layouts, skins, themes)
- Annotations and Page Flows
- Security — Roles/Entitlements/UUP
The terms above may not be familiar to you, since this is an overview of Weblogic that is not a huge issue.
Generally speaking Weblogic training includes:
- BS in engineering, computers, MIS or work related experience.
- Experience in web development and development life cycle.
- J2EE platform developing
J2EE platform, what is that?
I turned to Webopedia (correct, not Wikipedia) for this answer and found
J2EE is a platform-independent, Java-centric environment from Sun for developing, building and deploying Web-based enterprise applications online.
In my opinion, becoming familiar with Weblogic is one possible career path for those that have experience with Java
Knowing the forecast of the future within Weblogic is important before embarking on a path that includes this training. According to research I uncovered there is indeed a need for Weblogic developers in today’s industry with the following states offering the lion’s share of these types of positions:
- Virginia
- New York
- Texas
- Connecticut
- New Jersey
- California
Finding Weblogic jobs elsewhere is possible though the challenge could be a bit fiercer. For the right price you might even consider relocating in-order to secure a Weblogic opportunity. Typically speaking you can expect anywhere from 46 to 92K for a Weblogic job, with many opportunities available in the 70 to 100K range.
Titles for Weblogic positions usually are similar to the following:
- Weblogic Architects
- Weblogic Admins
- Weblogic Developers
Of the 3 the greatest growth appears to be taking place within the realm of the Weblogic Developer.
Books to consider purchasing to find out more about the finer points of Weblogic would include but certainly not be limited to:
- Oracle WebCenter 11g Handbook
- Mastering BEA WebLogic Server
- BEA WebLogic Server 8.1 Unleashed
A simple search on Google or query on Amazon will help you find any of the above books or ones like them.
